First Fruits

O Lord, you are my God; I will exalt you; I will praise your name,

for you have done wonderful things, plans formed of old, faithful and sure.

For you have made the city a heap, the fortified city a ruin;

the foreigners' palace is a city no more; it will never be rebuilt.

  1. While waiting for God's instructions, who appeared to Joshua, and how did Joshua respond to him? Joshua 5: 13 - 14

 

  1. Considering the powerful well-established strongholds of evil in our culture is intimidating to stand against; How can we follow God's calling and participate in the battle for his kingdom- at work, at school, at home and in the larger community. Deuteronomy 14:2

 

  1. What has God always wanted his people to be?  Answer = List of 36 guides/things you should be doing as a Christian. Exodus 19: 5-6, Joshua 24: 19-23, Leviticus 11:44, 1 Peter 1:16-16, 1 Peter 2:9-10.

 

  1. The Israelites (The called, The chosen, People of the kingdom of God - you and I) were called to be holy before God. In contrast, what were the pagan (unbelievers) inhabitants of Canaan like? Answer = List of 7 things you should not be doing as a believer. Leviticus 18: 1-30

 

  1. What did the people carry as they walked around Jericho, and what were they acknowledging by doing this? Joshua 6: 6-9

 

  1. Our loving God killed so many people in Canaan - both pagans and Israelites (unbelievers and believers) who persisted in sin. Based on this how seriously does God view sin? Are you willing to turn from the sins in your life?

  1. What was God's desire concerning the first portion of whatever blessings he gave to Israel? Deuteronomy 26:1-15, Proverbs 3:9-10

 

  1. What do you think the practice of first fruits does for us and our relationship with God?

 

  1. How would you as a Christian, to whom God has given Time, Talent and Treasure - practice the first fruits principle in your life? (Psalm 31:19, Exodus 23:19)
